Big Sky Music: An Introduction to the Western Film Score

Westerns tend to have minimal dialog, multiple action sequences and extended travel montages, all of which require music to act as a cohesive force and keep the narrative moving forward. Learn about the history of western film music and be able to recognize the different musical elements of the western movie including the different styles and clichés used by composers, time and time again.

Learn about the technologies that made the ‘talkies’ possible and the early composers who developed modern film music.
